Smartphone displays
Hi there welcome to androidtech. We are aware about mainly two types of smartphone displays. They are IPS-LCD & AMOLED. Well I am here giving you some information about both the displays by their quality and differences.
1- IPS-LCD DISPLAYS -
IPS-LCD DISPLAY IN AN IPHONEThe full form of ips-lcd is ( In Plane Switching - Liquid crystal Display). This display is an advanced type of tft displays which are generally used in 1980s.TFT (LCD) displays are basic. Where as ips-lcd displays gives more accurate colours( natural looking ), better off-axis viewing angle and it packs the overall picture brighter. The IPhone from Apple uses IPS-LCD display. You should know that IPhone is costlier but it's display is not. Yes, ips-lcd displays are cheaper than amoled displays.
On LCD displays the light is rated from the '" back light ". The light is givento backlight from a single source LED. This makes the device thicker.
LED backlights push lots of light through the pixels to make it easier to read in bright light.
Most high quality Phone LCD displays use IPS technology to offer 178 degrees of view without any color shifting or color distortion.
INEXPENSIVE : This technology displays are cheaper as they are old and processed well in manufacturing.
2-- AMOLED DISPLAYS
SUPER AMOLED (CURVED) DISPLAY IN SAMSUNG DEVICE
Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode (AMOLED). As seen from the full form this amoled display technology has the main advantage is that their diode are self emitting. On AMOLED screens each pixel is it's own light emitting source, which means that backlight is not necessary. This makes the device thinner and slim.
Colours are brighter in AMOLED screens. This gives a better movie watching experience. This display gives better viewing angles; so curved displays on some premium smartphones looks good.
Energy Efficiency – Because the display can individually light pixels, and likewise leave some pixels turned off entirely, this means the screen can achieve levels of power efficiency rarely seen on smartphone displays, leading to better battery life.
Flexible, Curvable, Adaptable – Flexible AMOLED Displays are present in the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge, This dispalys are better or vivid colours and can give black colour at it's peak.
3- CONCLUSION
We can never conclude that which display is better. Both displays have theier pros and cons depending on whcih what quality of content you like. For watching movies AMOLED is best while in photography IPS-LCD is best due to it's natural colours.
