Govt. Permitted 5G Trials in India
Since launching of Jio in 2016, India's growth on the technology devices is increased. Now after so many news of 5g coming to India in 2021, Govt. has approved the applications of ISPs to test 5g in India.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has given permission to telcos Reliance Jio , Bharti Airtel , Vodafone Idea and MTNL to conduct 5g trials in India. 6 months of time is alloted to companies to test the 5G technology on their network.
The government has allowed telcos to use the OEMs( Original Equipment manufacturer ) of Samsung, Ericsson, Nokia and C- DoT. The Chinese OEMs Huawei and ZTE are not included in the approval list. As like USA / UK , it seems Indian government is also restricting Chinese companies to build 5G in India. Also Jio is said to be using its own indigenous equipments for trials.
Telcos has been asked to use 5Gi technology developed by IIT MADRAS, Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT) and IIT Hyderabad. This technology is able to reach more users with same 5G towers and radio networks. GOVERNMENT has also asked telcos to conduct tests in Rural areas along with Urban and Semi- Urban areas, so that 5G technology increase in whole country.
The permissions have been given by DoT as per the priorities and technology partners identified by TSPs themselves. The experimental spectrum is being given in various bands which include the mid-band (3.2 GHz to 3.67 GHz), millimeter wave band (mm) (24.25 GHz to 28.5 GHz) and in Sub-6Gigahertz band (700 GHz). TSPs will also be permitted to use their existing spectrum owned by them (800 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz and 2500 MHz) for conduct of 5G trials.
